IBKR does not communicate with clients via WhatsApp.

Unfortunately, we receive reports of suspected scammers posing as employees of IBKR frequently online, and we rely on our employees and individuals like you to report them to us.

Can you please send an email with more details to social@interactivebrokers.com, so that we can pass it to the appropriate team?

Comment on The Risks of Shorting Series, Part II: Borrow Fees  by Interactive Brokers https://www.interactivebrokers.com/campus/traders-insight/securities/short-selling/the-risks-of-shorting-series-part-ii-borrow-fees/#comment-330217 Thu, 20 Nov 2025 23:23:01 +0000 https://ibkrcampus.com/campus/?p=226006#comment-330217 In reply to Alon.

Hi Alon, thank you for reaching out. When you sell stock short, unless you arrange for a pre-borrow, the actual borrow does not take place, nor are borrowing costs incurred, until the trade settles. Similarly, when you close out the position, the borrow is not returned, and therefore any borrow costs remain, until settlement date. Settlement date is generally 2 business days after the trade date, which can result in fees being charged over a weekend or holiday. Please view this FAQ for more information: https://www.interactivebrokers.com/faq?id=75319268

Also, borrow fee details are enabled by request. Please view this User Guide for more details. We hope this helps answer your question!

Comment on Generating Income Through Options by Interactive Brokers https://www.interactivebrokers.com/campus/trading-lessons/generating-income-through-options/#comment-330214 Thu, 20 Nov 2025 23:17:26 +0000 https://ibkrcampus.com/?post_type=trading-lessons&p=206773#comment-330214 In reply to YG.

Hello YG, thank you for asking. Any open position, including non-base currency, can be closed by IBKR when the account is in a real or projected margin deficit. A Liquidation is done automatically and the Liquidation algorithm decides what to close. Please remember that IBKR’s Liquidation system is designed to close positions to reduce margin requirements and ensure the account becomes margin compliant.

If you want to decide what positions to close then you need to actively monitor your account values and add funds or reduce positions when your account’s Margin Cushion is low.

You have the ability to request one position be considered to Liquidate Last but that is a request and not a guarantee for what will be closed when the account is in a margin deficit. To choose a specific symbol to “Liquidate Last”, while logged into TWS, right click over the desired symbol, and then select “Set Liquidate Last”.

IBKR provides customers the opportunity to pre-request the order of liquidation in the event of a margin deficiency in their account, such requests are not binding on IBKR. In the event of a margin deficiency in customer’s IBKR account, IBKR retains the right, in its sole discretion, to determine the assets to be liquidated, the amount of assets liquidated, as well as the order and manner of liquidation. Customers are encouraged to consult the IBKR Customer Agreement and the IBKR Disclosure of Risks of Margin Trading for further information. For more information, please view: https://www.interactivebrokers.com/faq?id=38448785

We hope this helps!

Hello, thank you for reaching out. The default destination for orders is SMART, however, this default can be removed thereby allowing for a destination to be specified when an order is created. To change the default, select Edit and then Global Configuration options from the TWS top level menu to open the configuration pane. Then select Presets and the desired product type (e.g., stock, options, futures). Under the Miscellaneous title bar there is a box for “No default destination” which, if checked, will require you to specify a destination exchange prior to transmitting each order for that product type. The market price at that date, is $20.25 and it is highly probable to end up ITM if it continues further down to $20 or below. In case that i do not wish to automatically exercise the option, what choices do i have? Is there a way to declare not to exercise the option?

Comment on Performance Profile for Options by Interactive Brokers https://www.interactivebrokers.com/campus/trading-lessons/performance-profile-for-options-2/#comment-330204 Thu, 20 Nov 2025 21:59:15 +0000 https://ibkrcampus.com/trading-lessons/performance-profile-for-options/#comment-330204 In reply to RB.

Hello, thank you for reaching out. To view the correct performance profile, select the strikes and sides for the trade you intend to execute. The chart will automatically display the profile for that combination. The naming (e.g., “bull call” or “bear call”) is based on the selection, but remember that a short bull call and a long bear call represent the same position. Focus on choosing the correct strikes and sides rather than the label, and the performance profile will reflect your intended trade. We hope this helps!

Now it can be shorted by large investing firms or bought with margin which is what’s happened during the uptrend the last few months. With such a sharp decline It looks like to me margin calls are coming into play and forcing selling.
